Anjli Mohindra SFX Interview

By Mark
SFX have recently posted an interview with Anjli Mohindra on their website. In the interview Anjli talks about how she felt joining the cast of The Sarah Jane Adventures, her character Rani and much more. Two spoiler free quotes from the interview can be seen below;

On joining the cast:
“It’s been really great, because sometimes when you come into a show everyone’s already all tight in a performed group and you feel a bit intimidated but absolutely not at all. I completely feel part of the team, and it’s just fantastic coming into a group of mates that are already formed but welcome other people in as friends.”

On whether she’s seen the series before:
“Well, it is a lot younger than my age range because I’m 18, but I have seen it on TV a few times and got a lot more into it as I found about the auditions. At first I didn’t actually know how popular it was, until you watch a bit more and hear a lot more people talking about it, and you go onto the website and there’s forums and loads of stuff going on around it. But yeah, I thought it was great, because with children's TV it’s normally quite patronising, but not with this at all. There’s no ‘moral of the day’ at the end of every story, it’s just completely the same as Doctor Who, and adults can watch it as well, which I thought was great.”

You can read the whole interview here but please be aware that it does contain spoilers. The Sarah Jane Adventures series two will air next month on CBBC and also star; Elisabeth Sladen, Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony and Yasmin Paige.

Two Doctor Who Specials Set In America?

By Mark
The picture above was made by me.
According to an article in the News of the World, two of next year's Doctor Who specials will be set and filmed in America. Apparently The Doctor, as played by David Tennant, will also be joined by an Amercian assistant for these episodes. None of this is confirmed and at this moment in time these are just rumours. They may prove to be true or may prove to be false and you can read more about them here.

Torchwood Series 3 Press Release

By Mark
The picture above was made by me.
The BBC have released their first press release for the third series of Torchwood today. The press release mentions the fact the series has started filming and talks about the tone the series will have. It also mentions the names of a few guest stars who will be appearing in the episodes and can be seen in full below;

Filming for the third series of the smash hit drama Torchwood, created by Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, has begun in Cardiff.

Due to transmit in 2009 on BBC One, the series – called Torchwood: Children Of Earth – sees the team embarking on a single action-packed adventure as they battle for the future of the human race against the fiercest force they have encountered.

The highly-motivated Torchwood team are John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones.

Other regular cast involved in their high-octane adventure are Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, Gwen's husband, and Tom Price as PC Andy.

Special guests in the five part series are Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick Of It, Skins), who plays the role of Mr Frobisher – a civil servant who is hiding a terrible secret; Paul Copely (Coronation Street, The Bill) as Clem – the survivor still haunted by his past; and Liz May Brice (Bad Girls, The Bill) as Johnson – the cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.

Russell T Davies said: "The new series of Torchwood is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever – the audience is in for an amazing ride.

"This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we've ever made, and we've got plenty of surprises in store."

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, said: "We hope to make Torchwood a gripping and surprising TV event with storylines that push our team into greater danger and sacrifice.

"Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV."

The first two series of Torchwood have received global critical acclaim and the hit drama has been sold to more than 20 countries.

The second series of the BBC Wales-produced series, broadcast on BBC Two earlier this year, attracted audiences of around 3.4 million, peaking at 4.2 million for the first episode. Including viewers on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer the consolidated audience was 5.1 million.

When it launched on BBC Three in October 2006, it attracted the channel's highest viewing figures, with an audience of 2.5 million for the first episode.

Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. The producer is Peter Bennett (Doctor Who).

Torchwood is written by Russell T Davies, John Fay (Clocking Off, Coronation Street, Mobile) and James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood) and directed by Euros Lyn (best director in BAFTA Cymru TV Awards, Doctor Who, George Gently).

Torchwood is a BBC Wales for BBC Drama Production and was commissioned by Jane Tranter, BBC Controller of Fiction.

Torchwood series three will air over one week in Spring 2009 and you can view some photos from filming here. Euros Lyn will be the director for the series which will consist of five episodes and be called Children of Earth. More photos from filming will be posted soon. What do you think of the press release?

New Layout Now Up

By Mark
For the past two weeks there has been a poll on the sidebar asking whether or not you think I should change the layout and design of the site. I could have either kept with the one that can be seen in the above picture or change to the one that is up at the moment. Results are now in and 81% of the people who answered, 215 people in total, voted for the new layout. 48 people voted for the old layout which added up to 18% and I'd like to thank all 263 people who voted in the poll for letting me know what they think. The new layout is now up and I hope you all like it. In a bid to make the site more professional, I have also decided to stop putting "Enjoy my post, please comment below, thanks" at the end of all my posts. Obviously I still hope you do enjoy my posts and I do appreciate any comments posted on the site. The previous post is for use on the sidebar as I felt there were so many links filling up space that could be used for other things. I'd like to thank all my visitors for their patience with me changing the look of the site and all should be running as normal soon.

The 399th issue of Doctor Who Magazine was released yesterday and is now available in all good newsagents across the United Kingdom at the price of £3.99. This month's issue features an exclusive interview with Catherine Tate and much more. The press release for the issue can be seen below;

Téte a Tate... in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine!

Catherine Tate, aka the unforgettable Donna Noble, talks exclusively in DWM 399...

“What’s weird is, I was going into an established, loved, successful show, so part of me was thinking, oh God, there’s a responsibility there to that,” Catherine tells DWM. “But you can’t go on set every day and think, I really hope I don’t ruin this for everyone else involved! You just have to realise, yeah, I’ve taken this job, and the people around me wanted me to do it. Once you get down to the nuts and bolts of making the show, it was absolutely – and I can say this for certain – one of the best experiences of my professional life. Absolutely brilliant. There was just no down point.” Also in this issue:

• She was the the original feisty redhead! Bonnie Langford, aka companion Melanie Bush, talks candidly about her turbulant time on Doctor Who in the 1980s.
• Manga Doctor Who? Miss Saigon? And the Doctor and Donna at extra-fast speed? Find out what it all means as Executive Producer Julie Gardner tells us what happened when she went to the USA with new showrunner Steven Moffat, in Production Notes.
• There’s a multitude of adventures for the Doctor and Donna in a very special 10-page comic strip, The Time of My Life, written by Jonathan Morris with art by Rob Davis.
• It’s a close shave for Peri, as The Time Team get their minds warped by The Trial of a Time Lord!
• Pomp and circumstance... and Cybermen! DWM takes an exclusive look at August’s fantastic
Doctor Who Prom and talks to composer Murray Gold and the people who made it happen.
• Some of the Doctor’s most fondly remembered companions are back in an all-new series of audio adventures! DWM investigates the range and chats to the Doctor’s very first companion Susan, Carole Ann Ford.
• An alien killer on a space bus? The Doctor on a less-than-relaxing holiday? And bees that are far more intelligent than they appear? It can only be Delta and the Bannermen! Fact of Fiction examines one of the Seventh Doctor’s most extraordinary adventures. It’s tattyfilarious, missus!

• Neil Harris discovers the possible future of Doctor Who in You Are Not Alone...
• Plus all the very latest news, reviews, previews, competitions and much, much more!

Doctor Who Magazine will be celebrating the release of their 400th issue next month on the 18th September. It is not yet known what will feature in the issue but we do know that David Tennant will be sharing his love for Doctor Who Magazine inside. Will you be buying Doctor Who Magazine #399?

Torchwood: Children Of Earth

By Mark
The picture above was made by me.
In the latest issue of Torchwood Magazine, issue number eight, Russell T Davies has revealed that that the title of Torchwood series three's five part story is "Torchwood: Children Of Earth". It is unknown at the moment whether each episode will have it's own title or each will be named as parts. The story promises to be as epic as ever and Russell said that if he had to give fans two words about the series they would be "Euros Lyn". Euros has directed many Doctor Who stories over the past few years including Steven Moffat's recent episodes Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. He will be directing all five parts of Torchwood: Children Of Earth. According to the magazine the story will broadcast over one week in Spring 2009. Filming for the series will start later this month with principal photography starting on the eighteenth of August. What do you think of the title for the story?

Steven Moffat Wins Another Hugo

By Mark
For the third year in a row, Steven Moffat has won a Hugo Award for his work on Doctor Who. In 2006 he won the "Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form" award for his episodes The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, in 2007 he won the same award for his episode Girl in the Fireplace and this year he won the award for his episode Blink. Catherine Tregenna's Torchwood series one episode "Captain Jack Harkness" and Paul Cornell's Doctor Who series three episodes "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood" were also nominated for the award but lost out to Blink. Steven Moffat will become the head writer for the fifth series of Doctor Who in 2010 after Russell T Davies steps down from the position. Congratulations to Steven for winning the award and to Paul and Catherine for their nominations. What do you think of this news?
