Torchwood Magazine #13

By Mark
The thirteenth issue of Torchwood Magazine was released today and it is now on sale in all good newsagents across the United Kingdom at the price of £3.99. This issue takes a look at Torchwood's top ten moments, features interviews with Peter Bennett and PJ Hammond plus much more. Here is a paragraph released by Titan Magazines about the issue;

With filming wrapped on Children of Earth, the countdown to series three of Torchwood really starts now! We bring you another exclusive Children of Earth interview in the latest issue of Torchwood magazine – series producer Peter Bennett sheds light on shooting the much-anticipated five-part saga. As ever, the issue is packed with articles, features, interviews and stories dedicated to the exploits of Captain Jack and his team – and much more!

You can view more information about this issue of Torchwood Magazine here. The fourteenth issue will be released on the nineteenth of February and from now on the magazine will be released every two months instead of every month. This is likely happening because there are less episodes of Torchwood next year and they will be airing over a five day period instead of over a few months. Will you be buying Torchwood Magazine's thirteenth issue?

Torchwood Rift War Graphic Novel

By Mark
Titan Books have recently revealed their plans to release the Torchwood comic strip "Rift War" as a graphic novel. Rift War is a comic strip that has appeared in Torchwood Magazine since issue three and the story will conclude in the magazine's thirteenth issue which will go on sale tomorrow at an RRP of £3.99. The cover for the publication can be seen above and the book's official synopsis can be read below;

Torchwood is an action-packed sci-fi series following the adventures of a team of investigators, working for the secret organisation who use scavenged alien technology to solve present day crimes - both alien and human. Now the smash hit TV series comes to comics! When Torchwood-3 comes under fire in an all-out attack by extra-dimensional shock troopers, the team are torn in all directions. And with a deadly rift bleeding through into their own reality, time itself could be destroyed if the Torchwood team aren't able to stop it! Written by some of the UK's top comic creators, including Paul Grist, Ian Edgington, D'Israeli and Simon Furman - "Torchwood: Rift War" is an unmissable epic!

This book will be released on the twenty fourth of April next year and go on sale at an RRP of £9.99. The Next Doctor's Appreciation Index Figure

By Mark
The appreciation index figure for this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, The Next Doctor, has now been revealed and we now know that the episode received an AI figure of 86. An average BBC or ITV drama will receive an AI figure of 77 and anything above 85 is classed as excellent. You can view more information about how an AI figure is calculated here. According to overnight ratings, The Next Doctor was watched by 11.7 million but these figures are likely to increase when official figures are released by BARB next week. What do you think of the AI figure that The Next Doctor received? Would you have rated the episode higher, lower or the same?

New John Barrowman Interview

By Mark
A new interview with John Barrowman has today been published online by The People. In the interview, John reveals that the third series of Torchwood will be toned down a bit so that the United States of America won't have to edit as much of the series when it airs over there. An extract from the interview can be viewed below;

John: "The next series is about Torchwood fighting the government rather than just aliens and is a lot darker. Jack has to make a decision no parent - that's a big hint - should have to make."

But the show is also going to be toned down for America.
John said: "We're not swearing or doing anything close to the bone because it's been a huge success in the US and the networks won't accept it with all that stuff in it."

Does that mean John's going to keep his clothes on for once?
Actually, no. He said: "I'll still be getting naked and it will still be saucy - but it's done with taste. We'll be doing everything so it doesn't have to be heavily edited for the US."

You can read the full interview here. Today also marks the second anniversary of John and Scott's civil partnership. John got married to Scott Gill on this day two years ago and I'd like to take this time to wish the both of them a happy anniversary. What do you think of this new interview with John and the news that Torchwood series three may be toned down?

Midnight's Royal Television Society Award

By Mark
Midnight, the tenth episode of Doctor Who series four, recently won an award at this year’s Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards. It won the award for “Best Sound in Drama" and competed against two other shows which were; Criminal Minds and The Street. Julie Gardner, one of Doctor Who’s executive producers, recently spoke to Doctor Who Magazine about the sound department’s success;

"We're all so proud that the magnificent work of the Sound Department has been recognised at last. This episode pushed them right to the limit, using techniques that simply won't be called for on many other dramas, and it's wonderful to see their work being recognised by their peers. And I have to say, it's probably a unique event, for a drama recorded in basically one small room, to win an award for the quality of it's sound. That department does brilliant work on every single episode, and it's about time they were honoured! And out thanks and congratulations to the director of that episode. Alice Troughton, who worked so closely with the sound team, as well as the cast, who gave everything to make the story work."

Midnight is written by Russell T Davies and sounds in the episode were constructed by the sound department that work on Doctor Who. Murray Gold also wrote music for the episode which is available for purchase now as part of the Doctor Who series four soundtrack. I’d just like to take this time to congratulate the sound department that work on Doctor Who and everyone else involved. (Please note that the icon in this post was made by me and may only be used elsewhere if credit is given where needed, thanks in advance.)

Find out by reading the third exciting instalment of The Darksmith Legacy!

The Depths of Despair
The Doctor arrives in an underwater base on the planet Flydon Maxima - known locally as 'Despair' because hope is lost for all life there. Curiously their most advanced monitoring equipment was created and donated by Varlos. The Doctor is helped by a little girl called Gisella. Why did Varlos risk coming here? What has caused the ice to crumble so rapidly now? Can the Doctor evade the rampaging Dreadbringers, and sort out the attacking sea monsters? Who is Gisella and will she and the Doctor manage to escape in the TARDIS? Don't miss this thrilling fourth instalment of the Darksmith Legacy...

As previously reported, David Tennant has had to pull out of recent Hamlet shows due to a back injury. The Royal Shakespeare Company have now confirmed that David won't be returning to the role until after Christmas and that Edward Bennett will carry on being his understudy until he returns. David underwent surgery for a prolapsed disc on Thursday and fortunately all went well. He will hopefully feel better after Christmas and in the meantime, you can send David your get well soon messages here. The messages will be passed on to David himself and if you want to leave a message then you will need to sign up to the forum. Have you left David a message?
