Astrid , The Tardis?

By Mark
Picture above was made by me.
As you may know the character that Kylie Minogue will play in "Voyage Of The Damned" is called Astrid Perth. Astrid is an anagram of Tardis, The Doctor's trusty time machine. Well now the tabloids are reporting that Astrid herself is part of the Tardis.
Here is what Yahoo have to say;

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue will play the Tardis in the forthcoming Doctor Who Christmas special.
The 39-year-old singer will appear as waitress Astrid Perth in the hit BBC show, a character linked to the Doctor's time machine.
Astrid is an anagram of Tardis and the character's surname means 'part' in Welsh - the name translates as 'part Tardis'.
A source tells The Sun, "Viewers have often been told the Tardis is a living organism. But mystery has always surrounded what it is and what gives it its powers.
"The elements we know about Kylie's appearance all point towards her being the Tardis."

These is speculation at the moment , and is not confirmed as true.
What do you think of Astrid being part of the Tardis?

Luke The Lost Boy

By Mark
Picture above was made by me.
The BBC Press Office have released information about the two part Sarah Jane Adventures finale "The Lost Boy". It's a very interesting synopsis and I can't wait to watch the "The Lost Boy". Seeing as the report from the BBC Press Office has many spoilers, to read the report highlight the text below.
Here is the BBC Press Office Report;

Sarah Jane and the gang face some old alien enemies again, along with an altogether unexpected foe, in the final two-part adventure of the series.A news report on a couple looking for their missing son, Ashley, brings a surprise for Sarah Jane when she discovers that the missing boy looks exactly like Luke. And when Mr Smith, Sarah Jane's super-computer, confirms that Luke is a genetic match with Ashley, Sarah Jane sends him back to live with his "parents". But, with no knowledge of his former life, Luke finds it hard to fit in and, when he tries to escape, he makes a startling discovery about who his parents really are. Sarah Jane, meanwhile, makes some investigations into the Pharos Para-Science Institute – a research unit that has been conducting experiments using alien technology. Floella Benjamin guest stars as Professor Rivers in this episode. Sarah Jane Smith is played by Elisabeth Sladen, Ashley/Luke Smith by Thomas Knight, Maria Jackson by Yasmin Paige and Clyde by Daniel Anthony.
The Lost Boy is written by Phil Ford.

What are your views on the synopsis above?
Also don't forget Elisabeth Sladen will be signing autographs between 2pm and 4pm at Oxford Street's branch of Borders. If you manage to go to the signing and get any pictures, have any comments or anything to do with the event it would be much appreciated if you send them here. Thanks in advance. The unofficial ratings are in for this weeks Sarah Jane Adventures and both parts of Warriors Of The Kudlak managed to maintain high viewing figures for the series. Seeing as I never got round to posting the ratings for last Monday's episodes, I have also reported on how many people watched Sarah Jane Adventures on the 15th October.

15th October 2007
The Eye of the Gorgon part two was viewed by 1.0 million people with a 9.2% audience share. The Eye of the Gorgon part two was aired on BBC1 at 5pm. Warriors of the Kudlak part one, which was shown on the CBBC channel at 5:30pm, received 0.3 million viewers.

Double Doctors For Time Crash Confirmed

By Mark
It's now officially confirmed that the Children In Need special mini episode of Doctor Who will be a multi-doctor story. It goes to show that rumours can be true. The 10th Doctor (David Tennant) will meet up with the 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) in the scene entitled "Time Crash". Here is what the BBC Doctor Who Website have to say;

David Tennant's Tenth Doctor is set to meet Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor in a special scene commissioned for BBC One's Children in Need. The scene, entitled Time Crash, was written by award winning Doctor Who writer Steven Moffatt, and will transmit as part of the Children in Need fundraising evening on Friday 16 November 2007.
"It is an honour for me to be able to make the connection between the Fifth Doctor and the Tenth Doctor," noted Peter Davison. "However, now is not the time for sound-bites. I can feel the hand of history on my shoulder, even if I can't do the buttons up!"
Look out for more coverage on the site nearer the time - and don't forget to support Children In Need and donate on the night!

This is exciting news and it's great to hear that Stephen Moffat will be writing the mini episode. The episode will probably only last for about 7 minutes, like 2005's Children In Need Special, but it's better than nothing at all. The episode will air on the night of the Children In Need event which will be Friday 16th November.
More news on this will be posted as we get it.
What are your opinions on this news?

Pinstripe Partners

By Mark
New pictures from filming of Doctor Who have appeared on David-Tennant.com. The photos were took at a recent location shoot at Cardiff’s Churchill Way. Both wearing pinstripe suits, The Doctor and Donna are dressed for the occasion. The pictures can be seen below.

The above speech bubbles are not actual quotes, they are just funny features which were on the photos on the David Tennant website.
At the top of a high building, just what is happening to The Doctor and Donna, what are they doing? What do you think?

Torchwood Book News

By Mark
Picture above was made by me.
Three new Torchwood novels are to be released sometime in March next year. One will be wrote by Gary Russell, one by David Llewellyn and the other by Trevor Baxendale. The book "The Twilight Streets" synopsis seems to imply we will see Bilis, from Torchwood Series 1 episode 12 "Captain Jack Harkness" and episode 13 "End Of Days", appear in the book. Personally I think that Bilis appearing in the book would be very interesting and attract more readers.
Here are the synopsis' for the books;

The Twilight Streets by Gary Russell
There’s a part of the city that no one much goes to, a collection of rundown old houses and gloomy streets. No one stays there long, and no one can explain why – something’s not quite right there.
Now the Council is renovating the district, and a new company is overseeing the work. There will be street parties and events to show off the newly gentrified neighbourhood: clowns and face-painters for the kids, magicians for the adults – the street entertainers of Cardiff, out in force.
None of this is Torchwood’s problem. Until Toshiko recognises the sponsor of the street parties: Bilis Manger.
Now there is something for Torchwood to investigate. But Captain Jack Harkness has never been able to get into the area; it makes him physically ill to go near it. Without Jack’s help, Torchwood must face the darker side of urban Cardiff alone...
Featuring Captain Jack Harkness as played by John Barrowman, with Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato and Ianto Jones as played by Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoki Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd, in the hit series created by Russell T Davies for BBC Television.

(Untitled) by David Llewellyn
Tiger Bay, Cardiff, 1950. A mysterious crate is brought into the docks on a Scandinavian cargo ship. Its destination: the Torchwood Institute. As the crate is offloaded by a group of local dockers, it explodes, killing all but one of them, a young Butetown lad called Michael Bellini.
Fifty-eight years later, a radioactive source somewhere inside the Hub leads Torchwood to discover the same Michael Bellini, still young and dressed in his 1950s clothes, cowering in the vaults. They soon realise that each has encountered Michael before – as a child in Osaka, as a junior doctor, as a young police constable, as a new recruit to Torchwood One. But it’s Jack who remembers him best of all.
Michael’s involuntary time-travelling has something to do with a radiation-charged relic held inside the crate. And the Men in Bowler Hats are coming to get it back.

Something in the Water by Trevor Baxendale
Dr Bob Strong’s GP surgery has been treating a lot of coughs and colds recently, far more than is normal for the time of year. Bob thinks there’s something up but he can’t think what. He seems to have caught it himself, whatever it is – he’s starting to cough badly and there are flecks of blood in his hanky.
Saskia Harden has been found on a number of occasions submerged in ponds or canals but alive and seemingly none the worse for wear. Saskia is not on any files, except in the medical records at Dr Strong’s GP practice.
But Torchwood’s priorities lie elsewhere: investigating ghostly apparitions in South Wales, they have found a dead body. It’s old and in an advanced state of decay. And it is still able to talk.
And what it is saying is ‘Water hag’...

Unfortunately no covers are available at this moment in time for the above books. Also the name of the Torchwood book wrote by David Llewellyn is yet to be announced.
These books will be released in March 2008 and will join the three previous Torchwood books on the shelves. The three Torchwood books available in shops at the moment are; Border Princes, Slow Decay and Another Life.
Will you be buying these new Torchwood books when they are released?

Doctor Who Children In Need Special Confirmation

By Mark
Picture above was made by me.
The BBC have now confirmed that there will be a "very special episode" of Doctor Who for Children In Need this year. What it will be is unknown at the moment but their are rumours that it will be a Multi-Doctor story featuring David Tennant and Peter Davison.
Here is what the BBC have to say about this year's Children In Need;

Broadcasting live from Television Centre, the BBC Children In Need Appeal once again raises the curtain on an entertaining evening for viewers. Last year saw the most successful appeal to date with appearances from stars including McFly, Girls Aloud, Keane, Connie Fisher and the BBC newsreaders helping to raise over £18m on the night.
This year's show will see stars of stage and screen gather to perform their most spectacular musical hits, or even reveal hidden talents.
Lee Mead will open this year's show at 7pm with a live performance of Any Dream Will Do, before rushing back to the West End for a slightly later than usual performance of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Other highlights for the evening include an exclusive performance from the Spice Girls and a very special episode of Doctor Who.

It's great to see that Doctor Who will be helping raise money for Children In Need again this year. In 2005, we saw a mini Doctor Who Children In Need episode where we saw Rose question The 10th Doctor, leading them into crash landing into London on Christmas Day. In 2006, last year, a special Doctor Who Concert took place in the Millennium Centre, Cardiff. The Concert was called Doctor Who A Celebration and celebrated Murray Gold’s incidental music that features in Doctor Who.
What do you think this year's Children In Need episode will be about?

David Tennant - The Riddler?

By Mark
According to the Post Chronicle, David Tennant has expressed his interest in playing the role of a Batman baddie. Apparently he would love to play the Riddler.
Here is the article from The Post Chronicle;

Doctor Who star David Tennant wants to play a "freakish" villain in his next Tv role.
The Scottish actor, 36, admits he loved watching the original Batman series - and would relish the opportunity to torment the Caped Crusader himself.
He says, "I'd love to play the Riddler and be bad to Batman. It was so much fun to watch. I thought the Riddler was one of the most freakish of the villains, especially with that wild laugh."

It would be a big change from the character of The Doctor but I think David would make an excellent Batman baddie. He was great at being evil in Harry Potter The Goblet Of Fire playing Barty Crouch Junior. Good luck David on getting the role you want.
In other news 9th Doctor actor, Christopher Eccleston was recently interviewed by the Daily Record, in the interview he mentioned what it was like to play The Doctor. You can read the interview here.

Question : Is there going to be a second series of The Sarah Jane adventures?
Answer : I know that they're writing it and planning it, yes, but as always with these things they've not had the green light yet, but it all looks very hopeful I think. They seem pleased with how it's done, it's such a clever format.

Diaries Of A Timelord: I Am The Doctor

By Mark
Doctor Who Diaries Of A Timelord: I Am The Doctor, a calendarmag all about Doctor Who, was released last week. The magazine consists of information one each incarnation of The Doctor and artwork by Pete Wallbank. Also with the magazine/book comes a Doctor Who calendar with some artwork by Pete Wallbank on each month. I got my copy last Friday and I have to say it's fantastic.

Here is a synopsis of the magazine from Doctor Who Online;

A complete full colour Pictorial Biography combining stunning Graphic Design and Fantastic Photography with a traditional biography. A Calendamag is the combination of a Graphic Biography and a 28 page 2008 Calendar gift wrapped together in an attractive set.
About the book
Respected Author John Peel writes an unauthorised biography of TV's Timelord throughout his various incarnations over the years. A fresh 1st person (or should that be regeneration) approach sees each Doctor recount his adventures.
Ideal introduction for new fans and immense fun for existing ones. Wait until you see how they explain the Peter Cushing Incarnation.. Ingenious. Also featured throughout are some terrific art spreads by Pete Wallbank.
Zone's graphic design department have created a visual feast with this beautiful, coffee table like, 132 page graphic biography. Stunning graphics and some never before seen photography make this a book that can be enjoyed as much for it's visuals as it's content.
About the Calendar
The Calendar features 13 wonderful art pieces created by renowned artist Pete Wallbank. Collected here for the first time. It opens into a portrait A3 Calendar. Beautifully designed the calendar is worth the SRP of £7.99 alone.

If you want to know about the classic Doctor's, this is a good way to find out about them and what monsters they encountered.
Will you be buying Diaries Of A Timelord? It's a good read and the calendar will look stunning on your wall next year.

Astrid Kisses The Doctor?

By Mark
Todays edition of The Sun reports on some quotes which will apparently feature in the Doctor Who Christmas Special "The Voyage Of The Damned" as well as some rumours about the plot. Also The Sun reports that Astrid (Kylie Minogue) will share an on screen kiss with The Doctor (David Tennant) in the episode. For those of you who don't know Astrid is the name of the character that Kylie Minouge will play. Be warned there are potential spoilers in these rumours if they are true, so look away if you don't want to be spoiled;
Here is The Sun's article;

Kylie Minogue will plant a tender kiss on Dr Who in the Time Lord’s Christmas special, The Sun can reveal.
The tiny pop poppet has to climb on a box to snog the lofty Doctor, played by David Tennant.
But romantics will be disappointed to learn there will be no lasting love between the pair.
The seasonal spectacular ends on a sad note when Kylie, playing Dr Who’s temporary sidekick, spins off into space in a strange “half-form” of herself.
Kylie’s Christmas smacker is revealed in a plot outline for the show.
BBC bosses have been desperate to keep it secret — but The Sun has seen a copy.
We can reveal the special is set on board the Titanic, which has become a spaceship run by arch-baddie Max Capricorn.
The Doctor stows away on board and teams up with feisty waitress Astrid Peth, played by Aussie Kylie.
Together, the pair must save the Earth from mad Max’s evil intentions. But they snatch a brief opportunity to get smoochy.
Astrid tells the Doctor: “You need someone to look after you — can I come with you?” He agrees.
And according to the script, they share “a good kiss”.
Last night a show insider said: “Dr Who is one lucky, lucky, lucky time traveller. Who wouldn’t want to be snogged by Kylie?”
The special ends with a stunning scene in which the Titanic falls from the sky and looks like crashing on Buckingham Palace.
It's not proved that this will definitely happen, this is to be classified as a rumour at this moment in time. Only time will tell if it's true or not.
What do you think of these rumours?

Doctor Who Magazine # 388

A few weeks ago I posted the cover for Doctor Who Magazine Issue 388, now thanks to BBC Magazines we have details on the magazine.
Here is an in depth look at what will be in Doctor Who Magazine # 388;

Elisabeth Sladen, star of ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’, talks exclusively to Doctor Who Magazine about her brand new series...
"When Russell first suggested ‘Sarah Jane Adventures’, I wondered where they could take her, but she’s opened up and I’ve absolutely relished that. I loved that period of finding things in Sarah Jane, and it’s all come back. I’m so pleased."
Lis also reveals more about forthcoming stories, including the series’ dramatic conclusion, ‘The Lost Boy’…

I have decided to post all the Doctor Who news from today in this post so no one misses out on them if they were in separate posts. So let’s start with some Doctor Who series four casting news;

Sarah Lanchashire, Miss Foster
Sarah Lancashire has joined the list of actors and actresses set to appear in Doctor Who Series 4. Sarah will play a character called Miss Foster, a powerful business woman. Miss Foster will be in episode one of Doctor Who Series 4 which is written by Russell T Davies.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Doctor Who, It’s a brilliant episode and I’m looking forward to taking the Time Lord on” said Sarah.
It seems that Miss Foster will be the enemy with the quote “I’m looking forward to taking the Time Lord on” and the fact that she is a powerful business woman.
What do you think?

Gwen Pregnant In Torchwood Series 2?

By Mark
The Daily Star reports that in a story for Torchwood Series 2, Gwen will become pregnant. Apparently Gwen is shocked when she finds out she is expecting to give birth to a half-baby, she only finds this out on her wedding day. It's Rhys and Gwen's wedding day and it's left up to Martha and Gwen to hide the bump for the big day.
As this is not confirmed by the BBC, and is just a rumour which was published in The Daily Star, this may not happen in Torchwood Series 2 and at the moment is classified as a rumour.
What do you think of this rumour?

Doctor Who Books The Many Covers

By Mark
Covers for three new Doctor Who books, which will be released on the 1st May next year, have now been revealed. These novels will feature the characters of The 10th Doctor and Martha Jones.
Here are brief synopses for each book;

Martha in the Mirror by Justin Richards
Castle Extremis - whoever holds it can control the provinces either side that have been at war for centuries. Now the castle is about to play host to the signing of a peace treaty. But as the Doctor and Martha find out, not everyone wants the war to end. Who is the strange little girl who haunts the castle? What is the secret of the book the Doctor finds, its pages made from thin, brittle glass? Who is the hooded figure that watches from the shadows? And what is the secret of the legendary Mortal Mirror?The Doctor and Martha don't have long to find the answers - an army is on the march, and the castle will soon be under siege once more.

Snowglobe 7 by Mike Tucker
Earth, 2099.Global warming is devastating the climate. The polar ice caps are melting. In a desperate attempt at preservation the Governments of the world have removed vast sections of the Arctic and Antarctic and set them inside huge domes across the world. The Doctor and Martha arrive in Snowglobe 7 in the Middle East, hoping for peace and relaxation. Soon they discover that it's not only ice and snow that has been preserved beneath the Dome. While Martha struggles to help with an infection sweeping through the holidaymakers the Doctor discovers an alien threat that has lain hidden since the last ice age. A threat is starting to thaw.

The Many Hands by Dale Smith
Edinburgh, 1759. The Nor' Loch is being filled in. If you ask the soldiers there, they'll tell you it's a stinking cesspool that the city can do without. But that doesn't explain why the workers won't go near the place without an armed guard. That doesn't explain why they whisper stories about the loch giving up its dead, about the minister who walked into his church twelve years after he died.It doesn't explain why, as they work, they whisper about a man called the Doctor. And about the many hands of Alexander Monro.

All three books will be published on the 1st May 2008. I will definitely be buying these when they are released.
Which book do you think sounds the most interesting? Will you be buying these books?

David Tennant The Academy Interview

By Mark
Autumn's edition of the RSAMD (Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) magazine features an in depth interview with David Tennant. David Tennant has a BA in Dramatic Studies from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Here are some Doctor Who related extracts from the interview;

Q: Who inspires you?
A: I keep meeting people who inspire me - I don’t have one individual in mind. Among actors I admire are Mark Rylance who is extraordinary – his playing of Hamlet is still something that lives in my mind. He seems to channel something ethereal in his work. Billie Piper has an ability to be completely relaxed and emotionally very open so it seems like she’s not working at all and that’s very inspiring. Some people’s craft is so intricate – Maggie Smith, for example, the way she can turn a line. I’m continually surprised and inspired by the people I work with. And sometimes .

Q: Do you feel trapped by Doctor Who?
A: Not at all, the time – nine months filming – is a big commitment and it means that it’s not possible for me to do some theatre, say, in between series, but I’m having a ball, so trapped isn’t the word – it’s very humbling to be seen as part of something that people are so attached to. It’s an experience I’m delighted to have had.

Q: How difficult is it playing opposite a sci-fi type creature?
A: Well, actually you get used to it remarkably quickly. It’s not so different from being in a Shakespeare history play and having to imbue someone you just saw in the canteen that day with kingly status. It’s the same imaginative leap – the person you were talking to at the catering van that morning now has seven green tentacles on their head, or whatever. You just get on with it. I love it – it’s just like being in the playground really!

The full interview can be read here thanks to David-Tennant.com. It's an interesting interview, a good read. At the end of the interview David wishes good luck to everyone.
