Torchwood Series Four Confirmed?

By Mark
According to reports on various different websites, it was revealed at the San Diego Comic Con last weekend that a fourth series of Torchwood has been commissioned by the BBC. This confirmation apparently came from a representative of BBC America who attended the event and also stated that a press release for the show's fourth series should be made public by the BBC's Press Office in a few weeks time. You can view one of the many articles reporting about this news here online. Before Torchwood's third series aired earlier this month, Russell T Davies explained that a fourth series of the show would depend on how well Children of Earth was received and how successful it was with the public. With viewing figures over six million for all five parts, Torchwood received fantastic ratings and you can view more details about the series here. It should be noted however that the BBC haven't yet officially confirmed online that a fourth series of Torchwood will definitely be made but more information about Torchwood's future will be posted on this site as soon as it becomes available. Tom Baker talks exclusively about playing the 4th Doctor again in DWM's 411th issue!

He’s back! The jelly-baby munching, boggle-eyed bohemian puts on his long scarf and floppy hat once more, as the legendary Tom Baker returns to the role of the Fourth Doctor for the first time in over fifteen years! DWM talks exclusively and in depth to Tom about what made him come back to the role that made him famous, what he thinks of Doctor Who today and whether a meeting with the current Doctor could be on the cards. Tom also tells us what he thinks about these modern Doctors kissing their companions...

“Well, I don’t know how I would’ve done it,” Tom considers. “I suppose I would have made it extremely funny. Especially if I’d rescued the girl, and she’d kissed me, I would’ve been able to be absolutely astounded that she was pressing her lips on mine, thinking, ‘Oh, that was rather nice’ and then saying, ‘Would you like to do that again?’” He laughs. “But I don’t know. It was inconceivable during our time. We didn’t think like that. I played him entirely… I never did handle the girls. Or if I did handle the girls, I always did it clumsily, because I reasoned that the Doctor wouldn’t know about that.”

Also in DWM 411:

A Free, Brand New Doctor Who Story!
Exclusively for DWM readers, there’s a brand new, free audio story to download featuring the Third Doctor and Jo! When Jo finds herself on an alien planet in the far future, she begins to recall a tale of ghosts and murders – and a terrible Time Lord secret... Doctor Who Series Five Filming Press Release

By Mark
Filming for the fifth series of Doctor Who has today begun in Cardiff and both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have already been spotted on set. To celebrate the launch of the filming, the BBC's official Doctor Who website have now uploaded a new picture of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in their character's costumes and a new press release for the series has also been released. You can view this press release in full here on this site below;

Filming has at last started on the next series of Doctor Who! New showrunner and long-running Doctor Who fan Steven Moffat has developed this series and, as Lead Writer and Executive Producer, will be responsible for the overall creative direction of the show, as well as plot and character arcs. His previous episodes of Doctor Who, including the BAFTA-winning episode Blink, have garnered widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike.

Discussing the series, Moffat commented, 'And here it is, the big moment - the new Doctor, and his new best friend. And here's me, with the job I wanted since I was seven. 40 years to here! If I could go back in time and tell that little boy that one day all this would happen, he'd scream, call for his Mum and I'd be talking to you now from a prison cell in 1969. So probably best not then. Matt and Karen are going to be incredible, and Doctor Who is going to come alive on Saturday nights in a whole new way - and best of all, somewhere out there, a seven-year-old is going to see them, fall in love, and start making a forty year plan...'

Piers Wenger, Executive Producer and Head of Drama, BBC Wales added, 'The scripts for the new series are every bit as funny, thrilling, scary and imaginative as you'd expect from the man who brought us The Empty Child and Blink. There's a strange and perfect alchemy between Steven and Matt Smith and the next few months are going to be riveting as that relationship starts to emerge on screen. Steven always says he's been waiting to do this job since he was seven. But it's actually the Doctor who has been waiting for him.'

The new series follows on from three Doctor Who specials starring David Tennant which will transmit later this year.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says, 'I am thrilled that a whole new generation of children will forever say that their Doctor was the wonderful Matt Smith.'

The series was co-commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning for BBC One and Jay Hunt, Controller of BBC One and will be produced by Tracie Simpson (Doctor Who) and Peter Bennett (Torchwood). Steven Moffat is Lead Writer and Executive Producer (Jekyll) with Piers Wenger, Head of Drama, BBC Wales and Beth Willis (Ashes to Ashes), also Executive Producing.

Filming is taking place in Cardiff right through to March, 2010 and we'll be here to bring you the production news as it happens. So stay tuned. The journey starts right here!

You can view an image of both Matt and Karen's costumes in full here and we also now know that the name of the Karen's character will be Amy Pond. Doctor Who series five will see Matt Smith take on the role of the 11th Doctor and Steven Moffat take on the role of the head writer for the show. The series is currently being filmed and filming will continue for the next nine months. According to reports, the series is scheduled for transmission in Spring next year and more information about the series will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Doctor Who Adventures #123

By Mark
Last week, the one hundred and twenty third issue of Doctor Who Adventures magazine was released and it went on sale in all good newsagents across the United Kingdom and Ireland at the price of £2.10. It took a look at the Stingrays from the recent Doctor Who Easter special 'Planet of the Dead' and came free with a squirty sonic screwdriver as well as some stickers. Unfortunately, no press release for the issue was sent to us and as a result, no details about the issue were published here on this site until now. Yesterday, we received an email from BBC Magazines apologizing for the lack of a press release and they very kindly sent us an image of the cover which can now be seen here on this site above. As well as taking a look at the Stingrays, the issue also included details regarding some of the best spaceships featured in Doctor Who, some pull-out posters, a list of the top ten battles and many fun activities. If you missed the issue and forgot to pick up your copy then you can contact Doctor Who Adventures or BBC Magazines and ask to purchase a back copy of the issue which they will then happily arrange to send out to you. Did you purchase a copy of this issue last week?

Torchwood Children of Earth DVD and Blu-Ray Signings

By Mark
It has recently been revealed that John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd will all be meeting fans and signing copies of Children of Earth on DVD and Blu-ray in two different locations this Friday. Children of Earth will be released in the United Kingdom on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow but if you want to attend these signings, you will either have to wait to purchase it on Friday at the event or buy an extra copy at the signing.

John, Eve and Gareth will first be making an appearance in London at Oxford Street's branch of HMV and signings will begin at 12:30pm. The signing will take place for one hour and thirty minutes and if you want to attend then you will need to be in possession of a special wristband for the event. These special wristbands will be free of charge and they will become accessible from the specified HMV store at 9am on Friday morning. They will only be produced in a limited quantity of two hundred and fifty which means that due to time restrictions, only a limited amount of people will be able to attend the event and meet John, Eve and Gareth. The wristbands will be handed out on a first come first served basis so if you want to guarantee that you meet the guests, it's best that you get there early as previous events have seen the wristbands go out of stock very quickly.

After they have finished the signing in London; John, Eve and Gareth will then fly over to Cardiff to sign copies of the DVDs and Blu-rays in Queen Street's branch of HMV. The signing will commence at 5pm and again, it's advised that you get there early if you don't want to be disappointed. At the moment, it seems that only wristbands will be handed out at the London signing so the basis of meeting these three guests in Cardiff will be based on how early and near to the front you are in the que. The signing will take place for a total of an hour but if the ques are large, the event may run for a slightly longer amount of time.

If you want to attend either of these signings, you will need to purchase a copy of Children of Earth on either DVD or Blu-ray at the event which John, Eve and Gareth will then sign. More information about both of these signings can be found here on John Barrowman's official website, here in the event section of HMV's website and here on Doctor Who Online. Will you be attending one of these events when they take place in London and Cardiff next week?
