Hyde Fundraisers at the Lowry 2009

By Mark
Last Saturday, Hyde Fundraisers visited the Lowry outlet mall in order to help raise money for Children in Need. While at the mall, some of the fundraisers dressed up as Doctor Who characters and visitors of the shopping centre were offered free photo opportunities with them. The event ran from 11am to 3pm and characters would alternate and change costumes every thirty or forty minutes. I attended the event for the full hours and managed to take many photographs of the characters while I was there. The best of these photographs, twenty six of them in total, can be viewed here in a specified album on my photobucket account. All of these photographs were taken by me and may be used elsewhere if credit is given where due, thanks in advance.

New Freema Agyeman Interview

By Mark
Freema Agyeman recently took part in an interview with Scotland on Sunday and the interview has now been published on their official website. In the interview, Freema discusses many things including; the recent rumours regarding Martha's potential return to Doctor Who and her latest show Law & Order: UK. An extract from the interview in which she talks about Doctor Who can be viewed below;

Is she, or is she not, returning to Doctor Who?
"There has been some speculation but nothing has been confirmed. Talk to anyone in the world of Who and they'll say you never feel like you've left. Ask Billie Piper. David Tennant bounds on to set every day and says, 'Right people, what are we doing today? Am I getting strung up, frozen, flung about a room?' It's a lovely unique environment because people are so passionate. It goes beyond a day job. So, of course, I would resurrect her when the time is right, whether in 10 years or one."

You can read the full interview here on Scotland on Sunday's official website. Freema's future with Doctor Who and Torchwood is still at the moment unconfirmed but we do however know that she will be starring in the first episode of 'Law & Order: UK' tonight. More information about Law and Order will be posted on this site shortly. What do you think of this interview?

David Tennant Talks Matt Smith

By Mark
Speaking to What's On TV magazine, David Tennant recently revealed how he feels about the casting of Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor. He explained that he feels that Matt has the right idea about the character of The Doctor and last exchanged opinions with him over the phone. David also told the magazine why he feels it's best to not give too much advice to his successor and a quote of David's can be viewed below;

"We chatted on the phone not long ago and we did exchange a few opinions on what’s about to unfold for him, but advice is a very dangerous thing. Matt’s got an extraordinary journey coming up in all sorts of ways and I’m sure he’ll find his own way through it. I could tell Matt was very up for it, though, and excited in all the right ways. He says he’s going to take it seriously and he seems to have the right idea about playing The Doctor, so far as I can tell."

David Tennant will return to our screens as The Doctor in Planet of the Dead which is scheduled to air sometime around Easter. Michelle Ryan, Noma Dumezweni and Lee Evans will also star in the episode which will be written by both Russell T Davies and Gareth Roberts. The episode will be available in high definition when it broadcasts and the Doctor Who team have recently returned from Dubai where they were filming important scenes for the episode. You can view some images from the filming in Dubai here in a previous post.

Hyde Fundraisers At The Lowry Aftermath

By Mark
Hyde Fundraisers visited the Lowry Outlet Mall today and I joined them for the full four hours in which they were there. Many members of the fundraising team dressed up as Doctor Who characters such as; Donna Noble, a Dalek, a Cyberman, a Robot Santa, a Clockwork Woman, a Pig Man, an Ood, the Empty Child and Bannakaffallata. A large remote controlled K9 prop was also there along with many Doctor Who cardboard cutouts and a Tardis interior backdrop. Everyone had the chance to have their photo taken with various of the different characters and they were printed on photo paper for free. It was a fantastic event and I'd like to thank everyone at both Hyde Fundraisers and The Lowry for organising it. Hyde Fundraisers were being paid to organise this event and all of the money in which they received will be donated to Children in Need. While at the event, I managed to take over fifty photographs and will upload most of them to this site on Friday. One of the photographs I took was used to make the icon in this post and it may be used elsewhere if credit is given where due, thanks in advance.

David Tennant Enters the Shakespeare Hall of Fame

By Mark
As previously reported, the Guardian recently ran a poll to find out who you wanted to be the thirteenth person in the Shakespeare hall of fame. The poll has now closed and we can now officially announce that David Tennant has won. He is now in the official Shakespeare hall of fame and came first in the poll with a massive sixty five percent of the vote. David was eligible for the place due to his fantastic work in the Royal Shakespeare Company's recent productions of Hamlet and Love’s Labour’s Lost. He will join many other actors, directors and authors in the hall of fame and you can view the complete list of results here. I'd just like to take this time to congratulate David on his amazing success and also congratulate everyone else for their nominations.

Peter Davison SFX Interview

By Mark
A new interview with Peter Davison, the actor who played the 5th Doctor in the classic series of Doctor Who, has recently been published by SFX magazine. The full interview has been posted on the magazine's official website and extracts from it can be found in the latest issue of SFX which is on sale now in all good newsagents at the price of £3.99. You can also view two extracts from the interview below;

What was your reaction when you heard about Matt Smith being cast? Did you think they’d go for someone more well known? Or someone older?
I only ever had one thought on my wish list – get an actor. With that in mind he seems a perfect choice. However, I hope they don't get too dogged about never casting older actors for the role in the future.

Can you see yourself ever going back to Doctor Who again, as you did for “Time Crash”?
I can certainly see myself, but I don't think it will happen.

The full interview can be read online here. Peter Davison played the role of The Doctor for a total of three years. He first played the role in 1982 and then left the show in 1984. Peter is also the father of Georgia Moffett who played Jenny in the sixth episode of Doctor Who series four, The Doctor's Daughter, and you can find more information about him here.

Tardis and Torchwood Treasures Turns Two

By Mark
The picture above was made by me.
As well as marking the anniversary of Saint Valentine, today also marks the second anniversary of this site. This site was created two years ago today and has since gained over 429,000 hits. I have made a total of 1309 posts before this one and have managed to keep the site updated every single day barring two days when my computer unfortunately had to be repaired. At the time of posting, I also have 77 blogger users subscribed as followers and have completed a total of ninety four episode guides. Many more pages will be added over the site's next coming year and I will hopefully be able to continue to update the site on a daily basis. I can't promise I will be able to do this however due to many reasons. These reasons include the fact that there may not be as much news this year due to there being less episodes of Doctor Who and less episodes of Torchwood which will air over a shorter time period. I will also be completing my GCSE examinations this year as well as starting either college or sixth form meaning I may not have as much time to make posts as I currently do. I'm hoping these things won't affect the site though and am hoping that you, my visitors, will be able to understand if there are no updates on the site one day in the future. I'd like to take this time to thank everyone who has ever helped the site, visited the site, left comments on the site and sent messages of support to me. It makes creating this site all worthwhile and I hope you enjoy the next year that's coming for Tardis and Torchwood Treasures. To celebrate this site's second birthday, I will be posting an exclusive wallpaper I have made sometime tomorrow. Wishing you all the best, with thanks, Mark.

According to the Telegraph and various other online sources, Matt Smith has recently signed a contract agreeing that he will play the role of The 11th Doctor for a minimum of three years. David Tennant, A Shakespearean Hero?

By Mark
It has recently come to our attention that David Tennant has the possibility of joining many other actors, writers and directors in the soon to be opened Shakespeare hall of fame. David has been nominated for the thirteenth place in the hall of fame and if he wins, a picture of him will be displayed on a wall in the newly opened Shakespeare exhibition. Appearing in the Royal Shakespeare Company's recent productions of Hamlet and Love’s Labour’s Lost has resulted in this nomination and you can vote for David online here. Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography

By Mark
It has recently been revealed that Elisabeth Sladen will be releasing her very own autobiography early next year. Elisabeth is currently sixty one years old and is well known for her role as Sarah Jane Smith in both Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Her autobiography, which has no official title at the moment, will be published by Aurum Press Ltd and it's official synopsis can be viewed below;

When Elisabeth Sladen first appeared as plucky journalist Sarah Jane Smith in 1973 "Doctor Who" story "The Time Warrior", little did she know the character would become one of the most enduring and fondly remembered in the series' history. The coming years would see her traverse time and space alongside classic Doctors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, whilst a generation of children crouched behind the sofa, terrified but transfixed as their tea time heroine found herself menaced by Daleks, dinosaurs, Cybermen, man-eating alien flora, Egyptian mummies, extras in bubble wrap and even the Loch Ness Monster. By the time she quit the TARDIS in 1976, making front page news, Elisabeth had become one of the most familiar faces of a TV golden age. But that wasn't the end of Sarah Jane. Since then Elisabeth has reprised the role many times appearing in anniversary specials; a 1981 spin-off with robotic sidekick K-9; radio plays; and for the BBC's "Children in Need". She's toured the weird, wide and wonderful world of "Doctor Who" fandom and regularly tops polls of fans' all time favourite companions. So when TV wunderkind Russell T. Davies approached her to come back again, this time to a Doctor Who backed by multi-million pound budgets and garlanded with critical plaudits, how could she possibly say no? Now Elisabeth Sladen tells the story of her remarkable career.

This book is expected for release in March next year and at the moment will go on sale at an RRP of £16.99. It will apparently contain over three hundred pages and plans have only been revealed to release it as a hardback. As with most autobiographies, a paperback edition may however be released a few months after the hardback edition is released. More information, including the cover and news of any possible book signings, will be posted as soon as it becomes available. Will you be buying Elisabeth Sladen's autobiography when it's released?
