New Doctor Who Series Five Companion Revealed
The BBC have today revealed the name of the actress who will be playing the 11th Doctor's companion in the fifth series of Doctor Who next year and they have also released some new promotional pictures of her standing by the Tardis. Karen Gillan, who is currently twenty one years old, will play the part of The Doctor's main companion for series five of the show and at the moment, the name of her character is unknown. She auditioned earlier this year along with many other people who were hoping to get the role and quotes from Karen Gillan, Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger can be viewed here on this site below;
Karen Gillan: "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it. "Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him – I just can't wait to get started!"
Steven Moffat: "We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."
Piers Wenger: "We knew Karen was perfect for the role the moment we saw her. She brought an energy and excitement to the part that was just fantastic. And when she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special. It is a partnership that is ready to take on the universe!"
Karen Gillan has previously appeared in many programmes and these include; New Town Killers, Stacked, Harley Street, Coming Up, Rebus and The Kevin Bishop Show. She also recently appeared in The Fires of Pompeii, the second episode of Doctor Who series four, as one of the Soothsayers and will star alongside James Nesbitt in the forthcoming film Outcast. Filming for the fifth series of Doctor Who will begin this Summer and the series is expected for transmission in Spring next year. More information about the series and its cast will be posted here on this site as soon as it becomes publicly available.

I wonder what she'll be called in the series? I've been going through quite a few names. Also, I've noticed, different hair colours! Rose: Blonde, Martha: Brown, Donna: Red, Karen: Ginger!
This is going to be really exciting now, I can't wait for series 5 to start, even though I'm extremely upset that David Tennant is leaving :(

Shame they haven't given us a name like they did when Freema was announced as being the companion.
She looks like a Hayley or Mary or something to me but we will have to wait and find out!
