David Tennant in Hamlet, The Opening Night
The picture above was made by me.
David Tennant will be taking to the stage tonight at 7:15pm for Hamlet's opening night. He will be playing the title role, Hamlet, at Stratford Upon Avon and the show will run till the 15th November 2008. A London run of Hamlet will then start on the 3rd December and continue through till the 10th January 2009 at the Novello Theatre. David will also be performing in Love's Labour's Lost from the 2nd October 2008 till the 15th November 2008 and an image advertising the production of Hamlet can be found here thanks to Collin and Karen Head. I'd like to wish David the very best for his time on the production and hope he enjoys it. Will you be going to see David in Hamlet? If so and you would like your review published on this site then please don't hesitate to contact me here. Credit will be given, thanks in advance.

Shame I can't go to see it but it sounds very good. And good luck to Mr T!
Absolutely awesome!! If you can get to see it - DO!
And the performances were outstanding. Tennant's Hamlet was by turns touching and amusing, managing to bring out moments of humour in some of the bleakest moments, notably with his - possibly adlibbed - 'Goodnight Mother' after the murder of Polonius in her bedroom. Patrick Stewart - cast in two roles as the ghost and the usurper Claudius - was convincingly villainous. Most surprising, perhaps, was Oliver-Ford Davies playing Polonius. I don't know if it's just that this version of the play is a longer cut (3 1/2 hours with interval) but he brought a wonderful dottiness to Ophelia's father that I've never seen before. Most of the other characters have much smaller parts, but all were played well and the time passed extremely quickly. If you can, I'd recommend catching the show either in Stratford or when it transfers to London, but I'll certainly be going back for another RSC production in the New Year.
